About The Position
The Nurse Tech works on 5 Children's, a 24-private-room pediatric medical-surgical unit at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital. The unit cares for a broad range of surgical and medical patients and is known for expertise in orthopedic, trauma, neurosurgery, general surgery, and psychiatric/behavioral patient care. Under the supervision of a nurse and in accordance with hospital policies and procedures, the Nurse Tech performs nursing care tasks and treatments for assigned patients. Routine bedside activities include bathing and personal grooming, taking vital signs, wound care, ambulation, and assisting patients with bedpans or urinary devices. This is a part-time night-shift position scheduled for 24 hours per week, with variable self-scheduled workdays and every third weekend. The listed hours are 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required within 90 days.
Responsibilities
- Perform nursing care tasks and treatments for assigned patients under the supervision of a nurse and in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
- Provide routine bedside care, including bathing and personal grooming.
- Take patients' vital signs.
- Perform wound care.
- Assist patients with ambulation.
- Assist patients with bedpans or urinary devices.
