About The Position
The Nurse Tech works under the supervision of a nurse and follows hospital policies and procedures to perform nursing care tasks and treatments for assigned patients. Routine bedside duties include bathing and grooming patients, taking vital signs, providing wound care, helping patients ambulate, and assisting with bedpans or urinary devices. The role is based on the 5 Children's pediatric medical-surgical unit at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital. The unit has 24 private rooms and cares for a range of surgical and medical patients, with areas of expertise including orthopedics, trauma, neurosurgery, general surgery, and psychiatric and behavioral patient care.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross within 90 days.
Responsibilities
- Perform nursing care tasks and treatments for assigned patients under a nurse’s supervision and in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
- Provide routine bedside care, including bathing and personal grooming.
- Take patients’ vital signs.
- Provide wound care.
- Assist patients with ambulation.
- Assist patients with bedpans or urinary devices.
