About The Position
The Nurse Tech works as a team member in delivering quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider. The role performs basic skills according to department guidelines and communicates observations to the health care team. It collects and reports patients’ and families’ physiological, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual needs in coordination with and as directed by the RN or Provider. Duties include taking vital signs, checking blood sugars, bed bathing, ambulating patients, wound care, catheterization, and serving as a safety attendant. Required documentation must be completed accurately and on time. The position is part of the Resource Center, a team of Nurses, Nurse Techs, and Behavioral Health Techs that supports the unit of greatest need each day at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital. Team members care for varied patient populations and may support a different unit each day.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS), required within 90 days.
Responsibilities
- Deliver quality patient care as a team member under the supervision of an RN or Provider.
- Perform basic skills in accordance with department guidelines.
- Communicate observations to members of the health care team.
- Collect and report patients’ and families’ physiological, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual needs in coordination with and as directed by the RN or Provider.
- Take vital signs and check blood sugars.
- Provide bed baths and assist with ambulation.
- Provide wound care and catheterization.
- Act as a safety attendant for patients.
- Complete required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Support the unit of greatest need each day, potentially caring for different patient populations and supporting a different unit each day.
