About The Position

The Nurse Tech works as a member of the care team to deliver quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Provider. The role performs basic skills according to department guidelines, communicates observations to the health care team, and collects and reports patients’ and families’ physiological, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual needs in coordination with and as directed by the RN or Provider. Duties include taking vital signs, checking blood sugars, bed bathing, ambulating patients, wound care, catheterization, and serving as a patient safety attendant. The Nurse Tech ensures required documentation is accurate and completed in a timely manner.

The position is on the Acute Care of the Elderly (ACE) unit/1D, a 21-bed medical-surgical unit at Blodgett Hospital focused on medical patients over age 65. The unit treats a broad range of diagnoses, including congestive heart failure, COPD, septic shock, acute kidney injuries, and delirium. Teamwork and communication across the care team are emphasized.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Deliver quality patient care as a team member under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Provider.
• Perform basic skills in accordance with department guidelines.
• Communicate observations to members of the health care team.
• Collect and report patients’ and families’ physiological, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual needs in coordination with and as directed by the RN or Provider.
• Take vital signs and check blood sugars.
• Provide bed baths and assist patients with ambulation.
• Perform wound care and catheterization.
• Act as a safety attendant for patients.
• Complete required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
