About The Position

The Nurse Tech works as a team member in delivering quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider. The role performs basic skills according to department guidelines and communicates observations to the health care team. In coordination with and as directed by the RN or Provider, the Nurse Tech collects and reports information about patients’ and families’ physiological, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual needs. The role also ensures that required documentation is accurate and timely.

This position is on the 21-bed Acute Care of the Elderly (ACE) Med/Surg unit at Blodgett Hospital, caring primarily for medical patients over age 65. The unit treats a broad range of diagnoses, including congestive heart failure, COPD, septic shock, acute kidney injuries, and delirium. Teamwork and communication across the care team are important to the unit’s work.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS), required within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic patient-care skills according to department guidelines under the supervision of an RN or Provider.
• Communicate observations to members of the health care team.
• Collect and report patients’ and families’ physiological, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual needs in coordination with and as directed by the RN or Provider.
• Take vital signs and check blood sugars.
• Provide bed baths and assist patients with ambulation.
• Provide wound care and catheterization.
• Act as a safety attendant for patients.
• Complete required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
