About The Position

The Registered Nurse Team Leader is a pivotal clinical and leadership role responsible for overseeing the daily operations, clinical workflows, and nursing staff within a designated pediatric patient care unit. Combining expert hands-on pediatric clinical nursing skills with foundational leadership capabilities, the Nursing Team Leader ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality, and family centered care. The role serves as a primary resource for staff nurses and nurse’s aides. The Nursing Team Leader collaborates closely with nursing leadership and multidisciplinary therapeutic teams, and acts as a liaison between families and medical staff to facilitate optimal patient outcomes and complex discharge planning.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of progressive pediatric acute or sub-acute nursing experience, with a strong preference for pediatric rehabilitation, pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), or specialized pediatric long-term care.
  • Minimum 1 year of demonstrated leadership experience (e.g. Charge Nurse, Preceptor, Committee Chair, or permanent / interim team leader role).
  • Advanced clinical skills specific to medically complex, technology dependent pediatrics (e.g. vent/trach management, complex feeding tubes, advanced wound care).
  • Exceptional communication, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse families and across functional clinical teams.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities to balance direct patient care support with shift operational duties.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical record (EMR) platforms such as Meditech/Expanse, MS Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, pptx, OneNote, MS Bookings, MS Forms), Google Suite, Voalte helpful.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited institution in the US required.
  • Active New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters degree in nursing or healthcare administration is a plus.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) recommended
  • Certified Pediatric Nursing (CPN) or other relevant clinical leadership certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes a harmonious work environment.
  • Provides clinical leadership and guidance to staff members.
  • Acts as a role model in all activities of patient care delivery and professional interactions with staff, physicians, the multi-disciplinary team, and BCH leadership.
  • Ensures that that patients and families receive care in accordance with professional and organizational standards.
  • Manages clinical report on all children on the unit, using standardized communication tools.
  • Accurately assesses the conditions and health needs of the patients on the unit, including biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care and educational factors
  • Implements prescribed nursing actions and medical treatments using evidence based practices
  • Safeguards the rights of patient and family members in accordance with hospital policy.
