About The Position

The Emergency Department Nurse Residency Program at ChristianaCare is designed for senior nursing students, recent nursing graduates, or new RNs looking to start their careers in emergency nursing. This accredited program, beginning July 19, 2027, offers a structured transition from Graduate Nurse to Emergency Department Registered Nurse. It combines classroom instruction, simulation, and hands-on clinical training over 26 weeks, with ongoing support and professional development. Upon successful completion, residents transition to a Staff Nurse role in one of ChristianaCare's Emergency Departments. ChristianaCare's Emergency Departments include Newark Campus (Level I Adult Trauma Center), Wilmington Campus (Level III Adult Trauma Center), and Middletown Emergency Department. Collectively, these departments care for approximately 195,000 patients annually and feature advanced trauma and resuscitation facilities.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program before June 2027.
  • Hold or obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Have less than 12 months of RN experience by the program start date.
  • Hold a Delaware RN license or Compact State RN license before the start date.
  • Successfully pass the NCLEX before the program start date.
  • Obtain Delaware RN licensure or Compact State RN licensure before the program start date.
  • Sign a commitment agreement requiring two years of employment with ChristianaCare.
  • Fulfill a minimum of 15 months on the original unit of hire.
  • Be willing and able to work all shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
