About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) works collaboratively with the healthcare team to provide age-appropriate care to patients on the assigned unit. The role emphasizes health promotion and maintenance, disease prevention, and the diagnosis and management of acute and chronic diseases. It carries significant autonomy, requiring a highly motivated practitioner who can work independently. As an Advanced Practice Nurse, the NP provides leadership as a mentor, educator, researcher, and clinician, and practices within the scope defined by the Arizona Board of Nursing and HonorHealth. Practice is evidence-based, guided by nursing theory and a Shared Governance decision-making model, and aligned with organizational performance standards and initiatives. The NP provides holistic, patient- and family-focused care, develops therapeutic partnerships, applies expert clinical judgment, and uses evidence-based and diverse approaches to health and illness management. In collaboration with physicians, the NP performs histories and physical examinations, orders and interprets diagnostic studies, prescribes medications, consults ancillary departments and specialists, and supports transitions between levels of care, including discharge. The NP provides coaching and guidance to nursing staff, consults with healthcare providers, and contributes to research and clinical, professional, and systems leadership. As an educator and mentor, the NP supports clinical skill development, critical thinking, discharge planning, effective communication, and staff involvement in patient- and family-centered care while upholding professional and specialty standards. The NP independently and collaboratively conducts and supports research, evidence-based practice, and process-improvement projects, and helps incorporate current evidence into practice. The role also involves knowledge of reimbursement and business practices, marketing and contracting considerations, legal and regulatory requirements, credentialing, health policy, organizational structure and culture, outcome evaluation, and performance improvement.
