Requirements

  • Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
  • BLS required.
  • Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina.
  • National certification as a NP required.
  • Must be licensed in the state of NC and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • DEA licensure with full prescriptive authority required.

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ years of work experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant caring for Orthopedics Spine, Bone Health or Endocrinology patients.
  • If a recent NP or PA graduate, clinical rotations in Orthopedics and/or Endocrinology is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care for patients requiring treatment for fragility fractures and osteoporosis, as well as optimize prep-op and post-op care for elective surgeries.
  • Refer orthopedic patients to other services as needed to meet the needs of the patients.
  • Coordinate patient care including triage, physical exams, collecting and documenting data, conducting diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, ordering and scheduling laboratory studies, assisting with peri-operative workflow including scheduling, pre-ops, and post-op follow-up, diagnostic procedures and professional consultations, and prescribing appropriate interventions and medications.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing all pertinent patient information to supervising physician, nursing staff, patient resource manager, home health agency, and other relevant healthcare providers.
  • Provide timely documentation in the electronic medical record of all relevant data including results of diagnostic tests; laboratory results; patients’ condition and response to therapies/interventions; communications with physician colleagues.
  • Respond to patient inquiries and concerns via telephone or EPIC MyChart messages and be accessible to consult with supervising physician as needed.
  • Analyze clinical practice patterns to provide the best medical care and to increase effectiveness and efficiency.
