This role involves providing advanced practice care within the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), functioning as an ICU Swing provider. The practitioner will perform physical exams, collect and document patient data, order diagnostic tests, make diagnoses, prescribe treatments and medications, and deliver direct patient care under the supervision of a physician. Key responsibilities include performing critical procedures such as central line insertion, arterial lines, temporary hemodialysis catheters, paracentesis, thoracentesis, pigtail catheter placement, intubation, cardioversion, and lumbar puncture. The role also requires explaining procedures to patients and families, providing consultations for critical care outside the ICU, assessing and intervening in patient status changes, and collaborating with physicians on treatment plans. Documentation, billing, and family-centered communication are essential. The position provides back-up coverage for the Cardiology team in the ICU and may assist Hospitalists with cross-coverage and admissions. Other duties as assigned.
