About The Position

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) position is part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team consisting of Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Fellows, Mental Health Clinicians, Social Workers, and Mental Health Resource Coordinators. In this role, the APP will provide comprehensive, evidence-based psychiatric services to children, adolescents, and young adults experiencing acute and chronic mental health conditions. You will work closely with families, schools, and our interdisciplinary medical team to deliver individualized, family-centered care. The APP will conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, developmental histories, mental status examinations, and risk assessments for pediatric patients. The APP will formulate clinical diagnoses and prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychotropic medications in accordance with state regulations and institutional protocols.

Requirements

Physician Assistant (PA): Bachelor's degree or above from an accredited college or university.
Physician Assistant (PA): Graduate of a PA program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc.
Nurse Practitioner (NP): Master's or doctoral degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.
Nurse Practitioner (NP): Graduate of an NP program accredited by the National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Physician Assistant (PA): Licensure as a Physician Assistant (PA) in the State of California.
Physician Assistant (PA): Certification as a Physician Assistant (PA) by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
Physician Assistant (PA): Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA)
Physician Assistant (PA): An individual Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) license issued by the United States DEA for Schedule II-V controlled substances, required only if prescribing controlled substances to outpatients
Nurse Practitioner (NP): Licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of California
Nurse Practitioner (NP): Certification as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) in the State of California
Nurse Practitioner (NP): National Board Certification as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) from an agency accredited by the American Board of Nursing Specialties (ABNS).
Nurse Practitioner (NP): Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA).
Nurse Practitioner (NP): Furnishing license issued by the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN), required only if furnishing medications

Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive, evidence-based psychiatric services to children, adolescents, and young adults experiencing acute and chronic mental health conditions.
Work closely with families, schools, and the interdisciplinary medical team to deliver individualized, family-centered care.
Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, developmental histories, mental status examinations, and risk assessments for pediatric patients.
Formulate clinical diagnoses and prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychotropic medications in accordance with state regulations and institutional protocols.
Evaluate and treat patients with acute, chronic complaints and health maintenance concerns related to specialty, according to written standardized procedures.
Obtain complete histories and perform pertinent physical exams with assessment of normal and abnormal findings on new and return patients.
Perform or request and evaluate diagnostic studies as indicated upon evaluation of the patient.
Administer, order, furnish and prescribe medications.
Order and collect specimens for routine laboratory tests, screening procedures and therapeutic procedures, including blood and blood products.
Order physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, radiology examinations and nursing services.
Perform designated procedures after demonstrated competency, according to written standardized procedures where applicable.
Obtain informed consent, as indicated.
Initiate arrangements for hospital admissions and discharges and complete appropriate paperwork.
As directed by the supervising physician, enroll patients in investigational studies approved by the Investigational Review Board (IRB), and order the necessary tests and medications.
Recognize and consider age-specific needs of patients.
Effectively communicate and interact with patients, families, staff and members of the community from diverse backgrounds.
Recognize situations which require the immediate attention of a physician, and initiate life-saving procedures when necessary.
Facilitate the coordination of inpatient and outpatient care and services as needed.
Facilitate collaboration between providers and coordination of community resources.
Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory and clinical policies and procedures.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
Provide and coordinate patient teaching and counseling.
Other duties as assigned.
