About The Position

The Division of Surgical Oncology is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (APP) to join their surgical oncology practice, with a primary focus on breast care. The APP will evaluate and manage new surgical patients, coordinate perioperative and postoperative care, and develop an independent survivorship clinic. This role involves collaboration with a multi-disciplinary oncologic team, participation in weekly tumor boards, and treating patients with breast disease, including cancer, high-risk patients, and benign conditions. The practice is primarily outpatient and located at various MUSC Health locations. The ideal candidate is outgoing, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and energetic, supporting a high-volume clinical practice.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant OR completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN.
  • AGPNP/ANP (Adult Gerontology Primary Care NP or Adult NP) OR FNP (Family NP) OR AGACNP/ACNP (Adult Gerontology Acute Care NP/Acute Care Nurse Practitioner).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • DHEC and DEA license applications must be started prior to first day.

Nice To Haves

  • New Grad or experienced provider with interest in Surgical Oncology/Cancer care.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Surgical Oncology as a PA/APP.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and manage new surgical patients.
  • Coordinate complex perioperative and postoperative surgical care.
  • Develop an independent survivorship clinic for patient cancer surveillance.
  • Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary oncologic team to deliver top quality patient-centered care.
  • Participate in weekly tumor boards.
  • Treat the spectrum of breast disease, including cancer patients, high-risk for breast cancer patients, and benign breast disease.
  • Take comprehensive history and perform physical examinations.
  • Evaluate and treat based on history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results.
  • Document and bill for direct care provided.
  • Utilize current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice.
  • Perform and participate in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research.
  • Participate in and support accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization.
  • Demonstrate responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education.
  • Potentially precept students at MUSC enrolled as an advanced practice provider student.
  • Facilitate the learning of other new team members.
  • Maintain licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, etc. as required.
  • Active participant in Tumor Boards.
  • Participate in Surgical Oncology Clinical trials.
  • Obtain surgical consents.
  • Travel to clinic sites in West Ashley, Mt. Pleasant, and Nexton with possible expansion to other sites.
  • Work at MUSC plus travel.
