About The Position

The Division of Surgical Oncology is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (APP) to join their surgical oncology practice, with a primary focus on breast care. The APP will also manage patients with soft tissue malignancies, including sarcoma and non-melanoma and melanoma skin cancer. Responsibilities include evaluating and managing new surgical patients in collaboration with a surgeon, coordinating perioperative and postoperative care, and developing an independent survivorship clinic. The role involves collaboration with a multidisciplinary oncologic team, participation in weekly tumor boards, and treating a spectrum of breast diseases in an outpatient clinic setting. The practice serves patients with breast cancer, those at high risk, and those with benign breast disease. The ideal candidate is outgoing, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and energetic, supporting a high-volume clinical practice.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant OR completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN.
  • Physician Assistant or APRN License Type/Certification: AGPNP/ANP (Adult Gerontology Primary Care NP or Adult NP) OR FNP (Family NP).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • DHEC and DEA license applications must be started prior to the first day.

Nice To Haves

  • Physician Assistant (PA) or if APRN, License Type/Certification: AGACNP/ACNP (Adult Gerontology Acute Care NP/Acute Care Nurse Practitioner).
  • New Grad or experienced provider with interest in Surgical Oncology/Cancer care.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Surgical Oncology as a PA/APP.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and manage new surgical patients in collaboration with a primary surgeon.
  • Coordinate complex perioperative and postoperative surgical care.
  • Develop an independent survivorship clinic for patient cancer surveillance.
  • Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary oncologic team to deliver patient-centered care.
  • Participate in weekly tumor boards.
  • Treat the spectrum of breast disease, including cancer patients, high-risk patients, and benign breast disease patients in an outpatient clinic setting.
  • Provide direct care to patients through comprehensive history taking and physical examinations.
  • Evaluate and treat patients based on history, physical examination, and diagnostic test results.
  • Document and bill for direct patient care provided.
  • Utilize current research and evidence-based decision-making in clinical practice.
  • Perform and participate in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research.
  • Participate in accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization.
  • Demonstrate responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education.
  • Potentially precept students enrolled as advanced practice provider students.
  • Facilitate the learning of other new team members.
  • Maintain licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, etc. as required.
  • Actively participate in Tumor Boards.
  • Participate in Surgical Oncology Clinical trials.
  • Obtain surgical consents.
  • Travel to clinic sites in West Ashley, Mt. Pleasant, and Nexton, with possible expansion to other sites.
