This is an outpatient clinic position for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant specializing in Cardiothoracic Surgery. The role involves seeing pre-operative and post-operative cardiac and thoracic surgery patients, as well as managing add-on/sick visits. Responsibilities include handling patient portal messages, medication refills, assisting outpatient nurses with FMLA paperwork, and placing orders. The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will utilize advanced health assessment and decision-making skills, working collaboratively with physicians and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care across the continuum. This includes ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing medications and treatments, and providing patient teaching and counseling. The role also involves monitoring therapeutic interventions, making referrals, and performing minor procedures as approved. Demonstrating knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan, assessing age-specific needs, and interpreting patient data are essential. The individual is expected to show leadership through committee involvement, team projects, education, research, and performance improvement initiatives. Practice is based on the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Advanced Practice Registered Nursing, the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, and Rules of the Arizona State Board of Nursing.
