About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner will act as a liaison and advocate for patients with genetic traits or inherited diseases. They will serve as a resource for physicians in identifying genetic structures for diagnosis and initiate consultations to provide information and support to families at risk for inherited diseases. The role involves identifying at-risk families, analyzing inheritance patterns, interpreting genetic information, and discussing further testing or treatment options. The Nurse Practitioner will also collaborate with the Medical Director, see patients at Cuda Women’s Health Center, keep physicians informed of patient status, participate in follow-up programs, and work cooperatively with all staff. They will ensure patient rights are met, communicate relevant data to the healthcare team, and coordinate patient care for continuity. Additionally, the role may involve research related to genetic conditions and contributing to the Women’s Health program through community activities. The supervising physician will review all consultation notes, diagnostic imaging, and procedure recommendations. The advanced practice staff must carry professional malpractice liability insurance and consult with the supervising physician if a patient's care exceeds their expertise. Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
  • MA-RN License
  • MA licensure as a Nurse Practitioner
  • Master degree in Nursing
  • Mass Controlled Substances Registration
  • Certification in Genetic Testing from a nationally recognized accredited program within one (1) year of hire
  • Advanced practice Nurse Practitioner certification in Women’s Health
  • Recommend CEU’S to meet certification requirement
  • BLS current certification required
  • Recommend ACLS current certification
  • At least six (6) months practice as a Nurse Practitioner

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a liaison or advocate for patients carrying a genetic trait or have an inherited disease
  • Is an resource for physicians in identifying genetic structures to reach a definitive diagnosis
  • Initiates consultations to provide information and support to families in which a member is diagnosed with a genetic mutation or is at risk or prone to certain inherited diseases
  • Identifies families at risk in the community investigating the problem, analyzes the inheritance pattern and probability of occurrence or recurrence, then interpreting the information gathered to the families concerning the mutation and discuss and order any further testing or treatment available
  • Reports to Medical Director of High-Risk Genetic Testing Program and Breast Services and collaborates daily with her on scope of practice
  • Sees patients at the Cuda Women’s Health Center or other areas of the CCHC organization where such patients may be seen
  • Keeps the physicians informed of all patients being seen so appropriate physician review and involvement can be insured
  • Participates in patient, follow up program as assigned or requested
  • Works collaboratively and cooperatively with all physicians, nurses and ancillary staff members of the Center
  • Assures that the patient’s rights as identified by the institution are met
  • Communicates all data relevant to patient and/or family needs to the health care team
  • Coordinates patient care with other health team members by documentation and communicating data for patients with common well-defined diagnosis/patient problem to provide continuity of care
  • May help conduct research related to genetic conditions or genetic counseling
  • Contributes to the Women’s Health program through participation in community activities
  • The supervising physician will review all the written notes from the consultation of the NP with recommendations for diagnostic imaging and procedures
  • Carries professional malpractice liability insurance with average of at least $1,000,000 per claim
  • Consults with the supervising physician if patient's care is beyond the scope of the Nurse Practitioner’s expertise
