The Nurse Practitioner will act as a liaison and advocate for patients with genetic traits or inherited diseases. They will serve as a resource for physicians in identifying genetic structures for diagnosis and initiate consultations to provide information and support to families at risk for or diagnosed with genetic mutations. The role involves identifying at-risk families, analyzing inheritance patterns, interpreting genetic information, and ordering further testing or treatment. The Nurse Practitioner will collaborate with the Medical Director of the High-Risk Genetic Testing Program and Breast Services, seeing patients at the Cuda Women’s Health Center or other CCHC locations. They will keep physicians informed of patient status, participate in follow-up programs, and work cooperatively with all healthcare staff. The role also includes ensuring patient rights are met, communicating relevant data to the health care team, coordinating patient care for continuity, and potentially participating in research related to genetic conditions or counseling. Contribution to the Women’s Health program through community activities is also expected. The supervising physician will review all written notes and recommendations for diagnostic imaging and procedures. The advanced practice staff must carry professional malpractice liability insurance of at least $1,000,000 per claim. Consultation with the supervising physician is required if patient care exceeds the Nurse Practitioner's expertise.
