About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Nurse Manager – Surgical Services to provide leadership and operational oversight for the Operating Room (OR) and Central Sterile Services departments. This position is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical services while leading and developing a strong perioperative team. The ideal candidate will have recent acute-care Operating Room experience, strong leadership skills, and a thorough understanding of perioperative nursing practice, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and operational performance.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia or a valid multi-state compact nursing license.
  • Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent Operating Room/Surgical Services experience in an acute-care hospital.
  • Strong knowledge of perioperative nursing practice and patient-safety standards.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 24-hour operational oversight of the Operating Room and Central Sterile Services.
  • Lead daily OR operations, including surgical scheduling, staffing, workflow coordination, and case progression.
  • Ensure efficient utilization of personnel, equipment, and surgical resources.
  • Develop and manage staff schedules to maintain appropriate staffing levels while meeting productivity goals.
  • Monitor labor utilization, including premium labor, and implement strategies to improve operational efficiency.
  • Supervise, coach, mentor, and evaluate perioperative staff.
  • Foster a culture centered on patient safety, teamwork, accountability, and exceptional patient care.
  • Oversee supply management, inventory utilization, and cost-containment initiatives.
  • Analyze departmental metrics and prepare reports related to Surgical Services performance.
  • Lead quality-improvement initiatives and support evidence-based clinical practice.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards, regulatory requirements, infection-prevention practices, and risk-management initiatives.
  • Collaborate with physicians and organizational leadership to improve patient flow and overall operational performance.
