About The Position

The NICU Nurse Manager II is responsible for the planning, organization, and delegation of activities for the safe, efficient, and effective operation of the unit. This includes active participation with other hospital departments and leadership. The role involves providing resources and guidance for evidence-based practice, identifying processes for optimal data utilization, and preparing the unit, environment, and staff to meet credentialing bodies' requirements. The manager also identifies key drivers in the throughput process, evaluates roles, and develops solutions to barriers. Additionally, the position focuses on planning and managing patient care processes to improve performance, facilitating the delivery of quality patient care, and ensuring documentation meets hospital and credentialing standards. The Nurse Manager is responsible for staffing based on patient care needs, personnel functions including performance reviews and corrective actions, promoting professional growth and development, recognizing accomplishments, promoting staff retention, and facilitating new staff orientation. The role also supports shared decision-making through the unit-based council, incorporates customer needs into operations and planning, and promotes team building. The manager prepares and manages operating and capital budgets, identifies and evaluates patient care requirements and outcomes based on acuity, system, and budgetary guidelines. Professional accountability includes involvement in professional organizations, participation in committees, staying current with professional activities, alerting appropriate individuals regarding ethical and legal concerns, educating staff on chain of command, acting as a role model/mentor, adhering to ANA Code of Ethics, complying with hospital policies and Nurse Practice Act, participating in community activities, making appropriate referrals to Peer Review, participating in 360-degree evaluations, creating development plans, completing reports in a timely manner, and utilizing various resources for development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Nursing Required
  • 3 Years Experience as a registered nurse with previous experience as a charge nurse or similar leadership role (i.e., charge nurse, committee chair, preceptor, supervisor) Required
  • RN - Registered Nurse Upon Hire Required
  • Knowledge of industry standards:organization, theory, principles, and research processes, quality improvement and change management techniques, financial analysis, budget process and planning, accreditation and regulatory standards, strategic planning principles, ability to assess nursing care requirements based on nursing principles, scope of practice, and regulatory standards.

  • RNC-NIC - Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing a Plus

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and delegate activities as required for safe, efficient, and effective operation of the unit including active participation with other hospital departments and leadership to accomplish this purpose.

  • Demonstrates involvement in professional organization.
  • Participates in hospital/department/system committees.
  • Stays current with professional activities.
  • Alerts appropriate individuals regarding ethical and legal concerns (i.e. Risk Manager, Compliance Officer, Director).
  • Educates, promotes and evaluates appropriate use of chain of command by staff.
  • Acts as a role model/mentor.
  • Adheres to ANA Code of Ethics.
  • Complies with hospital policies and with Nurse Practice Act.
  • Active in Reach Out THR and other community activities.
  • Makes appropriate referrals to Peer Review.
