About The Position
The Department of Human Services (DHS) is seeking a skilled and compassionate Nurse Manager 1 to join our dedicated nursing team at Torrance State Hospital. It is essential to prioritize and ensure compliance with the expectations set forth by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
Requirements
- Two years as a Registered Nurse Supervisor or three years as a Registered Nurse Instructor (Commonwealth job titles or equivalent Federal Government job titles, as determined by the Office of Administration) in a facility providing care and services for people with a mental or physical injury, illness, or developmental disability; or Six years of professional nursing experience, which includes one year in a supervisory or consultative capacity providing nursing care and services for people with a mental or physical injury, illness, or developmental disability; and a bachelor's degree in nursing, nursing education, or nursing administration.
- A master's degree in nursing, nursing education, or nursing administration may be substituted for up to one year of the required general professional nursing work experience.
- An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year in a supervisory or consultative capacity providing nursing care and services for people with a mental or physical injury, illness, or developmental disability.
- Active authorization to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.
- All employees possessing an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
- Ability to perform essential job functions.
- Satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
Responsibilities
- Supervise nursing staff, assign work, evaluate staff performance, and support daily hospital operations
- Direct and evaluate nursing services to ensure quality treatment and compliance with regulations
- Implement and interpret nursing policies, procedures, and performance improvement measures
- Coordinate with security, administration, and interdisciplinary clinical teams to support and enhance patient care
- Review training needs, participate in staff development, and represent the nursing department on committees
- Manage staffing patterns, document actions, and assist with labor relations and reporting
