About The Position

The Department of Human Services (DHS) is seeking a skilled and compassionate Nurse Manager 1 to join our dedicated nursing team at Torrance State Hospital. In this vital leadership role, you will lead, coordinate, and evaluate the delivery of nursing services and overall operations, ensuring high-quality patient care, regulatory compliance, and efficient clinical performance. Requirements

  • Two years as a Registered Nurse Supervisor or three years as a Registered Nurse Instructor (Commonwealth job titles or equivalent Federal Government job titles, as determined by the Office of Administration) in a facility providing care and services for people with a mental or physical injury, illness, or developmental disability; or Six years of professional nursing experience, which includes one year in a supervisory or consultative capacity providing nursing care and services for people with a mental or physical injury, illness, or developmental disability; and a bachelor's degree in nursing, nursing education, or nursing administration.
  • A master's degree in nursing, nursing education, or nursing administration may be substituted for up to one year of the required general professional nursing work experience.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year in a supervisory or consultative capacity providing nursing care and services for people with a mental or physical injury, illness, or developmental disability.
  • Active authorization to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.
  • All employees possessing an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions.
  • Satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise nursing staff, assign work, evaluate staff performance, and support daily hospital operations
  • Direct and evaluate nursing services to ensure quality treatment and compliance with regulations
  • Implement and interpret nursing policies, procedures, and performance improvement measures
  • Coordinate with security, administration, and interdisciplinary clinical teams to support and enhance patient care
  • Review training needs, participate in staff development, and represent the nursing department on committees
  • Manage staffing patterns, document actions, and assist with labor relations and reporting
