About The Position

Firelands Health is seeking a Nurse Intern (RN or LPN) for a PRN position in Med-Surg. This role is for students within their last 4 weeks of school or recent graduates awaiting board exams in an RN education program. The Nurse Intern will assist in delivering patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse, following nursing standards, protocols, procedures, and evidence-based practices. Responsibilities include utilizing the nursing process, assessing patients, and assisting in planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care. The intern will not perform procedures requiring RN licensure, such as passing medications or admission assessments, but may complete data collection. They will also administer routine treatments, communicate and document patient information (observations and interventions, including physical assessments with RN/LPN review), charge equipment and supplies, care for the environment and equipment, and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills by communicating with team members, patients, and visitors, maintaining adaptability, participating as a unit team member, reporting problems, and demonstrating Service Excellence.

Requirements

  • High school graduate; currently enrolled in an approved RN program (A.D., diploma, BSN). Candidate must be committed to an RN position at Firelands Health.
  • Ability to provide proof from educational institution of good standing in program and currently in final semester.
  • Must complete nurse intern competency check list.
  • Must be currently certified in CPR (and recertified bi-annually).
  • Provides nursing care under direction of registered nurse.

Responsibilities

  • Provides care for patients according to nursing standards, protocols, procedures, and evidence-based practices.
  • Utilizes the nursing process.
  • Assesses the patient.
  • Assists in planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care.
  • The Nurse Intern will not perform any procedures that require licensing by the State (i.e. passing medications, nursing diagnosis, admission assessment, may complete data collection.)
  • Administers routine treatments.
  • Communicates patient information.
  • Documents information. Utilizes “OPIE” documentation process (N.I. can only document observation and interventions including physical assessments with RN/LPN review)
  • Charges equipment and supplies.
  • Care of Environment & Equipment
  • Communicates with other health team members, patients, and visitors.
  • Utilizes good guest relations.
  • Maintains adaptability.
  • Participates as a unit team member.
