About The Position

The Nurse Extern provides patient-centered care on a 20-bed Medical/Surgical Telemetry unit, where patients require cardiac monitoring as well as medical and surgical nursing care. Working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the extern supports patient safety, comfort, and well-being; assists the nursing team and responds to emergent situations; and contributes to high-quality care while advancing their nursing education. The schedule is 7:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m. or 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.; the position is contingent.

Requirements

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent, or current enrollment in the Henry Ford Health Early College Program with completion of two clinical rotations.
• Enrolled in an accredited school of nursing and completed two clinical rotations, including one in Med/Surg in an acute care setting.
• Current Health Care Provider Certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform specific patient care duties to meet patients’ safety and comfort needs under RN supervision.
• Provide input to assist the RN in planning and implementing patient care.
• Respond to emergent situations according to established procedures.
• Participate in continuing education to enhance nursing skills and knowledge.
