About The Position
The Nurse Coordinator plays a leadership role in assessing and training on maternal/infant mortality and morbidity. The position performs and implements health education, prevention, and control measures according to Healthy Start Systems protocols. In line with Healthy People 2030/Health of Boston report, the coordinator identifies patterns, provides education, and outreach as needed for successful outcomes for maternal child health. This role ensures an equitable approach to maternal and child health that incorporates BPHC racial justice principles. The coordinator assists with the development of data collection tools and ensures complete and accurate collection of data. They play a key role in maternal child health related activities, providing education and outreach on maternal child health issues to healthcare providers, agencies, and community groups throughout the city. The coordinator acts as a resource on maternal health child related issues for Healthy Start Systems and other BPHC staff, non-BPHC providers, and community groups. They may supervise subordinates, assist in the orientation of new staff and staff development programs, and identify or develop maternal child health resources. The role provides nursing support for Healthy Start Systems such as clinical assessments, growth and development, and program protocols. The coordinator participates in and provides clinical support for special projects and initiatives as requested, and participates in staff conferences, research activities, and meetings with community-based or other agencies as requested. They collaborate with others throughout BPHC and birthing providers to address health disparities in maternal child health. The role may require performing duties of other nurses and performing other duties as required.
Requirements
- Licensed to practice as Registered Nurse in Massachusetts
- BSN or a Bachelor's Degree in a related field required except that 10 years clinical or public health experience (health education, outreach) may be substituted for a BSN or Bachelor's Degree
- 3-5 years' experience in case management, infection control, and/or emergency nursing.
- RN licensed in MA & Bachelors degree in Nursing or related field required.
- 3-5 years Public Health experience required, including recent direct clinical experience.
- Demonstrated supervisory skills required with demonstrated leadership -and organizational skills.
- Strong assessment, planning, evaluation and intervention skills.
- Excellent teaching and counseling abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to carry out responsibilities in the home, community, clinic, school, and/or other group settings.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations.
- Valid Mass. drivers license and daily access to working automobile required.
Nice To Haves
- Master's Degree in Nursing, Education, Public Health, or related field preferred.
- Experience in case management, public health nursing, and/or emergency nursing preferred.
- Experience in project management and/or research in biomedical sciences or public health preferred.
- Prior communicable disease experience preferred.
- Prior phlebotomy experience preferred or willingness to learn.
- Bilingual (Spanish, Creole, or Asian language) preferred.
