About The Position

Under the direction of the Manager, the Diabetes Nurse Educator integrates knowledge, skills and the principles of teaching and learning, in the provision of diabetes education and quality care for clients and families, the general public and health professionals. Teaching can occur in inpatient, outpatient or community settings, with individuals or groups. The incumbent will provide visible, proactive leadership and promote the delivery of client-centered care through educational activities. The incumbent is responsible for assessing learning needs and planning, implementing, and evaluating educational activities for clients/families/health professionals. The Diabetes Nurse Educator will use a consultative approach, accepted standards and guidelines and current research findings to provide support to clients and health care professionals as appropriate.

Requirements

  • 1 year experience in program/resource development
  • 3 years experience in clinical area within the past 5 years
  • Experience in teaching adults, facilitation skills, and leading group activities
  • One (1) year experience in adult education
  • Requires or in progress towards a recognized Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support Certificate (BCLS)
  • Basic - Problem solving skills
  • Basic - Computer skills
  • Basic - Critical thinking skills
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships/partnerships
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Standards and application of such
  • Articulates theory and knowledge related to client centered care
  • Ability to develop and deliver formal education programs
  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development
  • Demonstrates leadership abilities
  • Ability to apply research to clinical practice
  • Ability to integrate knowledge and experience to enhance clinical practice.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrates ability in teaching, facilitation and group activities

  • Registered/eligible with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS)
