About The Position

Under the direction of the Manager, Urgent Care Centre, the Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) is responsible for ensuring all work is in alignment with the organization's missions, goals, values, and strategic plans to promote high-quality and safe client care. This is accomplished by assisting in establishing and maintaining best practice; assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating unit orientation, clinical training and other educational programming; assessing learning needs; acting as a clinical resource; participating in committee work as assigned; participating in continuous improvement activities; developing and maintaining client and staff resources. The CNE will function as a member of the interprofessional clinical team to promote effective delivery of client care in the Saskatchewan Health Authority, including direction and regular communication from the clinical area manager(s). The CNE is an educator, clinical leader, change agent, facilitator and consultant.

Requirements

  • Requires a minimum of three (3) years recent and relevant nursing experience, with a minimum of two years experience working in an emergency department.
  • One (1) year experience in a clinical leadership role such as a charge nurse, clinical coordinator or equivalent is required.
  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing with a baccalaureate degree in nursing
  • Basic - Computer skills
  • Registered with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in program planning, implementation and evaluation is considered an asset.
  • Specialty training programs (Critical Care Nursing Advanced certificate, Perioperative Nursing Advanced certificate)
  • Specialty Certifications (ACLS, PALS, Triage) as indicated by the specific clinical area
  • Specialty instructor certifications (ACLS) as indicated by the specific clinical area
  • Previous experience in formal clinical teaching, mentoring, leading and facilitating group activities, and coordinating quality improvement activities is preferred

  • Engaging nursing staff in strategies and decisions related to professional practice and education
  • Promoting and encouraging the professional growth and development of nursing staff and other professionals
  • Demonstrating conflict resolution in crisis situations related to clients, families, staff and physicians and other departments, particularly related to clinical problem solving
  • Integrating principles of adult learning, nursing theory and evidence based practice into educational programming and clinical support
  • Identifying core competencies and assessing learning needs of the nursing staff in consultation with the Clinical Manager and other stakeholders
  • Ensuring evidence based practice guidelines and clinical research findings are incorporated into the development of policies and standards of practice
  • Promoting a strong interdisciplinary team, by working in collaboration with other health care professionals
  • Acting as a role model, mentor and clinical expert resource for nursing staff in regards to professional development and clinical competence
