About The Position

The Nurse Aide Instructor is responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing a comprehensive Career and Technical Education (CTE) Nurse Aide program that prepares high school students for careers in healthcare and successful completion of the Virginia Board of Nursing-approved Nurse Aide Education Program and the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) certification examination. The instructor provides classroom, laboratory, simulation, and supervised clinical instruction while fostering a safe, engaging, and student-centered learning environment. The position promotes academic achievement, technical competence, employability skills, professional ethics, and career readiness consistent with the Virginia Department of Education Career and Technical Education Standards and Prince George County Public Schools' instructional expectations.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of nursing principles and patient care practices.
  • Knowledge of Virginia Board of Nursing Nurse Aide Education Program regulations.
  • Knowledge of Virginia Department of Education Career and Technical Education curriculum standards.
  • Knowledge of curriculum development, instructional design, classroom management, and student assessment.
  • Ability to teach medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, infection prevention, nutrition, patient care, communication skills, legal and ethical responsibilities, and related healthcare content.
  • Ability to supervise students in classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings.
  • Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, healthcare professionals, and community partners.
  • Ability to integrate instructional technology into daily instruction.
  • Commitment to continuous professional growth and lifelong learning.
  • Meet all applicable Virginia Department of Education licensure requirements and Virginia Board of Nursing regulations.
  • Hold or be eligible for a Virginia Collegiate Professional License with the appropriate Career and Technical Education endorsement; or Hold or be eligible for a Virginia Technical Professional License in Health and Medical Sciences or other applicable endorsement area.
  • Hold a current, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Commonwealth of Virginia or possess a multistate licensure privilege recognized by Virginia.
  • Have a minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience.
  • Have at least one (1) year of direct patient care experience as required by the Virginia Board of Nursing.
  • Meet all qualifications established by the Virginia Board of Nursing to serve as a Nurse Aide Education Program Instructor.

  • Previous teaching experience in secondary education, postsecondary education, or workforce training.
  • Experience teaching Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) curriculum.
  • Experience supervising students in clinical settings.
  • Current CPR/BLS Instructor certification or ability to obtain.
  • Experience using instructional technology and learning management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging standards-based instruction aligned with Virginia Department of Education Career and Technical Education competencies and Virginia Board of Nursing regulations.
  • Develop daily lesson plans, instructional materials, laboratory activities, simulations, and assessments that promote student achievement.
  • Deliver classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical instruction using research-based instructional strategies.
  • Integrate literacy, mathematics, science, technology, and workplace readiness skills throughout instruction.
  • Differentiate instruction to address individual student learning needs.
  • Utilize instructional technology and digital resources to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Assess student performance using a variety of formative and summative assessment methods.
  • Prepare students for successful completion of the Virginia Nurse Aide competency examination.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and effective classroom and laboratory environment.
  • Enforce established safety procedures and ensure compliance with OSHA standards, infection prevention protocols, universal precautions, and applicable healthcare regulations.
  • Maintain current instructional equipment, laboratory supplies, and medical equipment.
  • Conduct regular inventory of equipment and instructional materials.
  • Recommend replacement or acquisition of instructional equipment and supplies.
  • Ensure students demonstrate proper use of healthcare equipment and safe patient care techniques.
  • Coordinate supervised clinical experiences with approved healthcare facilities.
  • Monitor and evaluate student performance during clinical experiences.
  • Maintain communication with clinical partners regarding student progress and program effectiveness.
  • Ensure all clinical documentation and student records are completed accurately and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Maintain compliance with all Virginia Board of Nursing clinical education requirements.
  • Establish a positive, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Promote professionalism, ethical conduct, and workplace expectations.
  • Encourage high standards of student behavior, attendance, and academic performance.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, competencies, and student progress.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, counselors, administrators, and staff regarding student achievement and concerns.
  • Assist students in career exploration, employability skills development, and postsecondary planning.
  • Support student participation in Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs), including HOSA.
  • Maintain current knowledge of nursing practice, instructional methodologies, and healthcare industry trends.
  • Participate in professional development activities required by Prince George County Public Schools, the Virginia Department of Education, and the Virginia Board of Nursing.
  • Maintain all required professional licenses, certifications, and endorsements.
  • Collaborate with faculty, administrators, counselors, healthcare partners, and advisory committee members.
  • Assist in curriculum review, program improvement, accreditation activities, and advisory committee meetings.
  • Maintain positive relationships with local healthcare providers and business partners.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, school improvement initiatives, and division activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal consistent with School Board policy.
