About The Position

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Nuclear Piping Engineer to join their Commercial Nuclear Team. This is an entry-level position based in Oak Ridge, TN. The role involves assisting in the design, development, testing, maintenance, and improvement of piping systems and associated supports. Responsibilities include designing and analyzing safety and non-safety piping and mechanical components for commercial nuclear projects, creating detailed engineering drawings, P&IDs, and 3D models, and interfacing with other technical disciplines. The engineer will apply industry best practices, regulatory guidance, codes, and standards to ensure compliant piping and system design. This role also requires performing engineering calculations, understanding piping materials, fittings, valves, and support systems, and performing checks to ensure the accuracy of piping and mechanical design media. Assigning schedules and ensuring timeliness of work are also key aspects of the position.

Requirements

  • 0-2 Years of professional experience in Nuclear, Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering or a related technical field (nuclear experience preferred).
  • Completion of bachelor’s degree in Nuclear, Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial engineering or a related technical field from an accredited college/university.
  • Basic computer skills required to enter data into spreadsheets or databases.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and using applicable software (e.g., PipeStress, AutoPipe, MathCAD, GT STRUDL, ANSYS).
  • Experience developing technical writings and reports.

  • Nuclear experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing, developing, testing, maintaining, and improving piping systems and associated supports.
  • Design and analyze safety and non-safety piping and mechanical components and designs for commercial nuclear projects.
  • Create detailed engineering drawings, P&IDs, and 3D models for piping routes, equipment, placement, and plant setup.
  • Interface with other technical disciplines (mechanical, nuclear, operations and electrical engineering teams) for piping design and consultation as needed.
  • Apply knowledge and experience, industry best practices, regulatory guidance, codes and standards, and good engineering judgment to ensure the piping and system design is compliant with International regulatory criteria and industry best practices.
  • Perform a variety of engineering calculations using traditional engineering methods to document compliance with project and code requirements.
  • Generate, and be conversant with piping materials, fittings, valves, and support systems.
  • Perform checks to ensure accuracy of piping and mechanical design media in accordance with company policies and procedures and client expectations.
  • Assign schedules ensuring the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of work and initiates corrective measures to overcome delays.
