The Piping Engineering & Analysis discipline performs evaluations for piping systems in accordance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.7, and other codes as applicable to the specific evaluation being performed. The Piping Engineering & Analysis discipline also performs evaluations for vibration monitoring and analysis, hydraulic transients, thermal stratification effects, operability, hydrodynamic loads, pipe rupture, pipe wall thinning, and pipe flaw evaluations. This role provides senior level technical direction and supervision to the project team members in his/her discipline. Establishes project task schedules and budgets for his/her discipline to meet overall project requirements. Coordinates activities between disciplines. Is responsible for successful completion of project deliverables to meet all technical, quality, and project controls expectations. Serves as a technical liaison with the client and a lead technical resource on projects. Lead engineers support engineering design projects with reviews of complex calculations and approval of simple calculations, providing technical guidance, and ensuring calculations are technically sound. They also review and approve simple system/structural designs and prepare and review complex system/structural designs. This role involves performing engineering review of drawings, reviewing design input for complex system/structures, defining client expectations for drawings, coordinating interface between design and engineering, and actively participating in design reviews. Preparation and review of major system, installation, and material specifications, defining technical and commercial requirements, and scheduling of vendor submittments are also key responsibilities. The role includes preparing bid evaluations for complex systems and installation scopes, participating in bid negotiations with vendors, and potentially evaluating change orders. Preparation and review of single-discipline, complex reports/studies and participation in multi-discipline reports are expected, ensuring conclusions are technically sound, cost-effective, and clearly communicated. Leaders in these roles are expected to lead others in taking engineering problems from issue to solution by setting expectations for using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs. They often direct automation and process-improvement work, such as automating calculations, summarizing technical documents, or generating design documentation, and guiding when and how AI or agentic AI tools are used while ensuring results are checked. Overseeing engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs, is valued.
