About The Position

This position is M-F, either 4-10s or 5-8s. This position will be supporting the surgical oncology practice at MGH. We are looking for someone to work with our surgeons on developing our endocrine radiofrequency ablation program across MGB sites. Additionally, this role will support our surgeons in abdominal surgical oncology. The APP will manage patients prior to surgery and post-operative long-term support for management of nutritional needs, surveillance for certain diagnosis as well as general post-operative wound assessment and general post-operative care. The clinic includes two nurses who support the practice, the APP would be first contact for all clinical triage support.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree Nursing or Physician Assistant required
  • Registered Nurse [RN - MA License]
  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse [APRN] [MA License] or Physician Assistant [MA License]
  • Skilled in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings.
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 2+ years of APP experience, preferred
  • Experience as a Nurse Practitioner 0-1 year preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assessing and managing various patient populations, including those with medical and/or surgical conditions.
  • Providing diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.
  • Developing appropriate plans of care.
  • Conducting ongoing evaluations.
  • Provides direct care, counseling, and education to a designated patient population in ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural settings.
  • Performs complete histories and physical examinations.
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.
  • Consistently provides high-quality and timely documentation, including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population.
  • Orders medications and writes prescriptions in accordance with organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.

  • First contact for all clinical triage support.
