About The Position

This position is per diem at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), located in Boston, MA. The opportunity is for an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join the cutting-edge Inpatient Oncology team, caring for inpatients with Solid Tumors. The role involves managing acutely ill patients with a blend of autonomy and support, focusing on oncology patients admitted for medical complications, new diagnoses, and treatment-related side effects. The position emphasizes teamwork and a sustainable work-life balance, with optimized patient to provider ratios. The team is committed to education and professional development, offering a 12-week new graduate orientation, interdisciplinary and APP-focused educational opportunities, and financial support for independent learning. There are also opportunities for committee involvement and process improvement. The successful candidate will be responsible for the care of patients on a 36-bed unit in collaboration with oncologists and the interdisciplinary team.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of APP required
  • Minimum 2 years of prior experience in an acute care/inpatient environment (either as RN or APP), with medicine, ICU or oncology experience highly desirable.
  • Master’s degree in nursing, national certification in advanced practice nursing OR master’s degree in physician associate studies, with certification by NCCPA.
  • Registered Nurse [RN - State License]
  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse [APRN] [MA] preferred
  • Skilled in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings.
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public

Responsibilities

  • Participating in daily interdisciplinary rounds
  • Collaboratively develop and implement care plans
  • Coordinating tests and consultations
  • Communicating with referring clinicians and consults

  • Performs complete histories and physical examinations
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests
  • Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings
  • Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries
  • Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population
  • Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures
