About The Position

The Non-Ferrous Clerk identifies and receives inbound non-ferrous metals from the general public for recycling. The work includes weighing material, entering the correct commodity code into the system, and placing material in its proper location. The role provides customer service at the retail scale, inspects and identifies material, records customer and product information, and processes transactions for payment. The clerk also learns and operates equipment to support the recycling process and works in a warehouse-type environment subject to the elements. Behr Iron & Metal, an Alter Company, is part of Alter Trading Corporation, which operates scrap metal processing facilities throughout the Midwest and Southern region. The company emphasizes customer service and safe, drug-free workplace practices. Pre-employment and employee drug and alcohol testing may be required in accordance with applicable law and company policy.

Requirements

Previous customer service experience is required.
Ability to pass the company's credit check requirement for the position.

Nice To Haves

Previous warehouse experience is preferred.
Previous metal scrap experience is preferred.
Experience in warehouse work, equipment operation, customer service, construction, retail, customer-facing roles, or computer work is identified as helpful.

Responsibilities
