About The Position

The PT Non-Certified Tutor will provide tutoring services to students at Central Campus. This role involves delivering tutoring sessions, assisting students with study skills, maintaining records, and adapting tutoring strategies to diverse learning needs. The tutor will also collaborate with faculty, provide feedback on student progress, and engage in continuous professional development. Additional duties may include administrative tasks such as covering the front desk or organizing materials. The position requires adherence to deadlines for submitting required documents and active participation in departmental meetings. A key requirement is completing CRLA Level 1 certification within one year of employment.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated proficiency in assigned discipline's subject matter (STEM Field)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written
  • Commitment to quality service to students
  • Ability and commitment to work collaboratively
  • Ability to work independently with little direct or continuous supervision
  • 3.0 General GPA and 3.5 in specific courses interested in tutoring

Responsibilities

  • Effectively delivers tutoring services to students at scheduled times (may be individual or group sessions).
  • Posts and maintains a weekly schedule of available hours for student appointments.
  • Assists students with the development of study skills necessary for post-secondary education.
  • Keeps regular and accurate records of tutoring sessions.
  • Monitors and reviews student work.
  • Modifies and personalizes tutoring strategies to accommodate different learning styles and needs.
  • Facilitates the learning process by encouraging students to take responsibility for their progress.
  • Interacts with SJC staff and/or faculty to obtain any necessary course syllabi or materials, and to develop tutoring materials in support of the course.
  • Delivers feedback as appropriate to staff and/or faculty regarding student progress.
  • Continues professional education through research and review of relevant material relating to the assigned subject matter.
  • May assist with additional duties as needed, for example, covering the front desk, answering phones, organizing materials, checking out resources, and performing other duties as assigned.
  • Completes and submits required documents in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Actively participates in departmental meetings as required.
  • Complete CRLA level 1 certification within one year of employment.
  • Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned.
