About The Position
Daniels Health & Sharpsmart is hiring a full-time, permanent Non-CDL Driver to serve healthcare customers in the Des Moines, Iowa area. The driver collects sharps and medical waste containers from customer locations, delivers and stores containers, and provides dependable customer service. The role involves operating a box truck up to 26 feet, managing a route, and meeting delivery schedules. It is a Monday–Friday, first-shift position starting at 6:00 a.m., with 40 hours per week and opportunities for overtime. The position pays a non-negotiable $25.00 per hour and offers a $3,000 sign-on bonus: $1,000 after 30 days of employment and $2,000 after 90 days. The company provides regulated waste collection and treatment services for hospitals and other healthcare customers, with a focus on safety, infection control, and reducing needlestick injuries and customers’ environmental footprint. Full-time employees receive benefits, sick leave, and vacation leave from day one. Background checks and drug testing are part of the post-offer hiring process.
Requirements
- Valid DOT medical card.
- Delivery experience driving a 26-foot box truck.
- Driving experience in an industry involving manual handling.
- Experience performing pre-trip and post-trip vehicle evaluations.
- Clean driving record.
- Flexible, can-do attitude and strong customer focus.
- Experience with DOT compliance, logging hours, and roadside inspections.
- Confidence with Level 1 through Level 3 road checks.
- Proven longevity in past employment.
- On-time delivery practices.
Responsibilities
- Safely collect, deliver, and store medical waste containers at customer locations.
- Provide strong customer service and build positive customer relationships.
- Operate vehicles safely, including box trucks up to 26 feet.
- Complete deliveries according to schedule and clearly communicate changes or challenges.
- Load and unload containers, and prioritize and organize the truck according to the schedule and needs.
- Manage a route as directed by leadership and provide timely, efficient, and effective service.
- Comply with DOT regulations, log hours, and complete roadside inspections.
- Perform heavy lifting.
