About The Position

SharkNinja is seeking a highly motivated Noise and Vibrations Engineering Co-op to support the development of innovative products across its Shark and Ninja product ranges. The co-op will help product teams evaluate and analyze noise and vibration issues, then develop and test solutions that improve product sound quality and performance. This is part of SharkNinja’s Early Edge Experience, a program for early-career talent offering exposure to the industry, meaningful project work, professional development, community events, and opportunities to present contributions and learnings to company leaders. The position is full-time, 40 hours per week, and onsite five days per week in Needham, Massachusetts. No relocation or housing assistance is provided. The role calls for a current engineering student with an interest in acoustics, sound quality, hands-on prototyping, and experimental testing. The co-op will work with multidisciplinary product development and R&D teams, contributing technical analysis and practical solutions in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Be a current student in the third year or beyond of a bachelor's program, or currently enrolled in a master's program.
  • Be pursuing Mechanical Engineering, Acoustics Engineering, or a similar degree.
  • Be able to work full-time, 40 hours per week, onsite five days per week in Needham, Massachusetts.
  • Have knowledge of mechanical engineering, basic physical acoustics, psychoacoustics, and noise-control principles.
  • Understand vibrating systems and how changes to different parameters affect system response.
  • Have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the drive to identify potential problems and take responsibility for resolving them.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues, including reducing abstract concepts to practical terms.
  • Be willing to perform hands-on development and testing work.
  • Be comfortable multitasking and responding to shifting priorities while maintaining focus on longer-term projects.
  • Be passionate about acoustics and improving the consumer noise experience.
  • Be curious, creative, solutions-oriented, and able to apply first-principles thinking to complex design challenges.
  • Demonstrate integrity, courage, adaptability, and a collaborative approach to work.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to a CAD program, ideally SolidWorks or Creo.
  • Experience with 3D printing or laser cutting.
  • Hands-on prototype development in plastic and metal, including use of basic machine-shop tools.
  • Familiarity with analog and digital electronics, test equipment such as microphones and accelerometers, and small-appliance components such as sensors, motors, heaters, and PCBAs.
  • Experience building prototypes and conducting experimental testing in a workshop or scientific setting.
  • Ability to deliver effective presentations to all levels of management.
  • Ability to develop strong cross-functional relationships and coordinate timelines and deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with acoustic and vibration testing of a wide variety of consumer products.
  • Analyze acoustic and vibration frequency spectra to identify and localize noise sources.
  • Work with multidisciplinary product development teams to improve sound power and sound quality.
  • Review product designs with engineering and product development teams and provide insights into noise performance.
  • Design, implement, build prototypes, and test solutions to noise and vibration issues.
  • Support R&D research into novel noise-reduction and control techniques.
  • Identify problems and develop, implement, and verify technical solutions independently and as part of a team.
  • Present contributions and learnings to SharkNinja leaders as part of the early talent program.
