About The Position

SharkNinja is seeking a Mechanical Systems Engineering Co-op for January through June 2027. This full-time co-op provides hands-on experience across the mechanical product lifecycle, including system architecture, component design, prototyping, testing, and validation. The role works on complex mechanical systems incorporating structures, mechanisms, materials, and thermal considerations to deliver robust, high-performance products. The co-op will contribute to product concept development and integrated system solutions while collaborating with engineers, industrial designers, and product managers. The role includes building and testing prototypes, analyzing results, supporting design reviews and failure analysis, and taking ownership of engineering tasks with increasing complexity. The position is based onsite in Needham, Massachusetts, five days per week, for 40 hours per week. Relocation and housing assistance are not available. The SharkNinja Early Edge Experience offers early-career participants meaningful projects, professional development, community events, and connections across the company. Participants have the opportunity to present their contributions and learnings to SharkNinja leaders.

Requirements

  • Be a current student in a related bachelor's or master's program, or have graduated from such a program within the past year.
  • Be able to work full time, 40 hours per week, onsite five days per week in Needham, Massachusetts.
  • Have a strong foundation in mechanical engineering and physics fundamentals, including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and mechanical design.
  • Have experience using CAD software such as SolidWorks and/or Creo for component- and system-level design.
  • Have hands-on experience building and modifying plastic and metal prototypes using basic machine shop tools.
  • Demonstrate analytical skills, attention to detail, and an ownership mindset to identify potential issues and drive solutions through verification.
  • Show intellectual curiosity and first-principles thinking to develop robust, practical solutions to complex mechanical design challenges.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly and concisely to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Be passionate about mechanical product design, system functionality, and performance.
  • Be able to independently identify, implement, and validate technical solutions while working effectively within a team.
  • Demonstrate SharkNinja success drivers: a no-delays mentality, progress over perfection, attention to detail, cross-functional teamwork, and communication for impact, including effective presentations to all levels of management.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to rapid prototyping methods such as 3D printing and laser cutting.
  • Familiarity with basic electronics and components used in electromechanical systems, including motors, sensors, heaters, and PCBAs.
  • Experience with experimental testing in a laboratory, workshop, or academic setting.

Responsibilities

  • Generate, evaluate, and prototype mechanical system concepts and architectures for SharkNinja products.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing engineers, industrial designers, and product managers to develop integrated system solutions.
  • Build, test, and iterate mechanical prototypes, subsystems, and laboratory rigs to evaluate performance, durability, and reliability.
  • Analyze test data to identify trends and root causes and inform system- and component-level design improvements.
  • Participate in technical design reviews and failure analysis discussions, contributing structured problem-solving and data-backed recommendations.
  • Take ownership of defined mechanical engineering tasks of increasing complexity, gaining exposure to mechanisms, materials, tolerances, and manufacturing processes.
  • Support design feasibility studies, CAD modeling, system layouts, and technical documentation alongside experienced mechanical engineers.
  • Develop a systems-level understanding of component interactions and balance product performance, reliability, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Apply iterative engineering principles to refine mechanical systems based on test results and design failures.
  • Engage directly in hands-on development, assembly, and testing activities.
  • Independently identify, implement, and validate technical solutions while collaborating effectively with a team.
