About The Position

This is a night shift position from 4 pm - 8 am with the requirement of rotated coverage for weekends/holidays, previously agreed upon mutually beforehand. The primary responsibility of the MOD on duty is the assessment of in-house patients, with varying workloads. The MOD will conduct rounds on evenings, weekends, and holidays, including patient care rounding in the CLC, RRTP, and Acute Psych, as necessary and included in this coverage. The role requires adherence to all established medication policies and procedures, and providing discharge education and follow-up instructions coordinated with the next care setting for all emergency department patients. The position also involves intubation and completing OOORAM during orientation, and completing appropriate QM/PI documentation related to all procedures, complications, and outcomes of examinations. Adherence to all established patient safety and infection control standards of care is mandatory. The Nocturnist is obligated to report all events related to patient injury, medication errors, and other breaches of patient safety to the COR VA Safety Policy within 24 hours, submitting the Patient Safety Report to the COR and following up as required or requested. Efforts must be made to prevent medication errors and patient injury caused by acts of commission or omission in the delivery of care. The Primary Care Physician performs comprehensive medical history evaluations and physical examinations on patients ranging from adult to geriatric populations. Responsibilities include diagnosing medical conditions, ordering appropriate laboratory tests, imaging studies (e.g., X-rays), and other diagnostic procedures as needed. Collaboration with other agencies or health facilities on behalf of patients and their families to arrange admissions to hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, and skilled nursing facilities is required. Organizing emergency ground and/or air medical transport as required, analyzing clinical data, developing therapeutic programs, and communicating information effectively to patients and their families are also key duties. Maintaining accurate and timely Electronic Health Records (EHR) with detailed clinical documentation, including diagnosis codes, and completing all EHR notes within 24 hours of patient encounters are essential. Prescribing medications and treatment therapies in coordination with nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare personnel is also part of the role.

Requirements

Graduate from an accredited School of Medicine with an MD or DO degree
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification recognized by the American Heart Association
