About The Position

This position is for a Nocturnist at the Northern Navajo Medical Center in Shiprock, New Mexico. The Northern Navajo Medical Center is part of the Shiprock Service Unit (SRSU), which serves populations across New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah. SRSU oversees one hospital, Northern Navajo Medical Center (NNMC), and two health centers. NNMC offers comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services, including medical-surgical, pediatric care, labor and delivery, ICU, internal medicine, family practice, emergency care, and women's health, with 55 inpatient beds. The Emergency Department is certified as PEDS Ready. The Nocturnist will provide all aspects of acute Internal Medicine hospital inpatient care for patients hospitalized on the general medical wards, Step Down Unit, and SCI/CLC unit.

Requirements

Graduated from an accredited Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) program to include an Internal Medicine residency program.
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine (AOBIM).
Possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted license to practice medicine in one of the 50 United States, District of Columbia, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam or U.S. Virgin Islands.
Possess and always maintain a current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration.
Possess and maintain certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as approved by the American Heart Association (AHA).
Minimum one (1) year experience as a Hospitalist / Nocturnist in a hospital-based inpatient clinical activity.

Responsibilities

Provide all aspects of acute Internal Medicine hospital inpatient care for patients hospitalized on the general medical wards, Step Down Unit, SCI/CLC unit.
Perform admitting history and physical examinations.
Co-manage/collaborate in the management of inpatients hospitalized on other medicine inpatient services.
Write prescriptions for medications and other items per formulary.
Write prescriptions for diets and nutritional items.
Discharge a patient from inpatient care once it is determined that such care is no longer required.
Perform patient assessment and documentation as needed for patient care.
Order diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests and x-rays.
Initiate and expedite requests for consultation and scheduling special tests and studies.
Provide education and counseling to patients and families for preventative care, medical conditions, and use of prescribed treatment and drugs.
Coordinate and supervise the scope of practice of assigned mid-level and appropriate allied health practitioner staff to ensure their rights and practice goals are achieved and integrated expeditiously to benefit patient care, if applicable.
