About The Position

Central Maine Medical Center is seeking a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Internal Medicine or Family Medicine physician to join its Nocturnal Hospitalist team in Lewiston, Maine. The role provides high-quality inpatient medicine in a collaborative, patient-centered environment on a nocturnist schedule. The position includes a manageable nightly census, dedicated support, a physician-led team with nurse practitioner/physician assistant support, a closed ICU with intensivist support, and access to specialty backup.

Central Maine Healthcare is an integrated healthcare delivery system serving approximately 400,000 residents across central, western, and midcoast Maine. Central Maine Medical Center is a 250-bed, not-for-profit regional referral hospital in Lewiston. The role offers competitive compensation, and employment with the nonprofit organization may make qualified physicians eligible for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, subject to federal requirements. A sign-on bonus of up to $25,000 is available for qualified candidates; eligibility and payout terms apply and are discussed during the interview process.

Requirements

• MD or DO degree from an accredited program.
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
• Eligible for or holding an active Maine medical license.
• Strong clinical, communication, and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive inpatient care during overnight hours.
• Admit patients from the emergency department.
• Cross-cover and manage existing hospitalized patients.
• Respond to overnight clinical changes and rapid responses.
• Collaborate with nursing staff, specialists, and care teams.
• Ensure thorough documentation and effective handoffs.
