About The Position

Provides senior supervisory oversight and operational coordination during the assigned shift. Evaluates staffing and service demands across divisions, directs the reallocation of personnel when necessary, supports critical decision-making, and coordinates the Sheriff's Office response to major incidents.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least five years of supervisory law enforcement experience.
  • Must have served at minimum 1 yr as Lieutenant in Criminal Operations.
  • Current Louisiana Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification, maintained throughout assignment.

  • Working knowledge of law enforcement operations, incident command, staffing deployment, and interagency coordination.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, maintain command presence, and provide accurate shift briefings and notifications.
  • Ability to respond to major incidents and work outside normal hours when operationally necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews staffing levels in Patrol and Communications and reallocates on-duty personnel when shortages, call volume, or operational needs require additional coverage.
  • Receives operational briefings from day-shift supervisors regarding significant incidents, unresolved matters, staffing concerns, and anticipated needs.
  • Provides guidance to the highest-ranking on-duty supervisors in Communications, Parish Prison, Patrol, and Criminal Investigations during critical or unusual events.
  • Determines the appropriate level of Sheriff's Office involvement in incidents involving agency personnel, other law enforcement agencies, or requests for mutual aid.
  • Responds in person to major crime scenes and significant incidents occurring during the shift.
  • Coordinates Sheriff's Office personnel and resources with law enforcement, fire, emergency medical, and other responding agencies.
  • Directs personnel placement, resident evacuation, scene support, and agency notifications during major incidents, as circumstances require.
  • Serves as the Public Information Officer during the shift or ensures media-related matters are referred through the appropriate chain of command.
  • Communicates significant events, decisions, and unresolved issues to the incoming shift, the Major, and the Chief of Detectives.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
