About The Position

WGAL News 8, an NBC affiliate serving the Harrisburg-Lancaster-Lebanon-York, Pennsylvania market, is seeking a creative, take-charge News Producer who can create memorable newscasts. The successful candidate will exercise strong news judgment, make decisions, and communicate a clear, concise strategic plan. They should be fast, calm under pressure, eager to grow professionally, and able to use digital and social media to find stories and contribute across platforms. The producer selects, researches, and writes content for live newscasts while advancing WGAL News 8’s “Coverage You Can Count On” brand. The role works closely with reporters, photojournalists, and a broad newsroom and production team to develop visual stories and execute a creative vision. Regular contributions to the station’s digital and social platforms are also expected. The schedule requires availability for holidays, nights, weekends, overnights, and breaking news.

Requirements

Excellent writing, spelling, grammar, and copy-editing skills.
Ability to multitask and coordinate several crews and responsibilities simultaneously.
Ability to synthesize and summarize complex information into comprehensive segments.
Creative presentation style and ability to showcase available resources and elements.
Strong news judgment, a can-do attitude, ability to make decisions, and ability to communicate a strategic plan clearly and concisely.
Unwavering journalistic integrity and ethical standards.
Availability to work holidays and shifts that include nights, weekends, and overnights, and schedule flexibility for breaking news.

Nice To Haves

Previous producing experience is preferred.
Experience with ENPS is preferred.
A college degree in broadcast journalism, broadcast news, or a related field is preferred.
Military training from the Defense Information School (DINFOS) with associated producing experience will be strongly considered.

Responsibilities

Select, research, and write content for live newscasts in support of WGAL News 8’s “Coverage You Can Count On” brand.
Work with reporters and photojournalists to develop highly visual stories for assigned newscasts.
Communicate, coordinate, and execute a creative vision with anchors, reporters, meteorologists, photojournalists, editors, digital producers, and production staff.
Contribute content regularly to the station’s digital and social platforms.
