About The Position

Screens the hearing of newborn infants in the nursery; schedules follow-up diagnostic appointments when needed, document findings and communicate results to parents and hospital personnel. Screen the hearing of newborn infants in the nursery by using otoacoustic emissions (OAEs) and auditory brainstem response (ABR) test. Counsel parents of newborns regarding screening procedures, results, and any need for follow-up. Document screening results and any follow-up appointments in the hospital and electronic medical records according to protocol. Forwards results to DPH, national registers, etc. Schedule diagnostic audiology follow-up appointments as needed for infants who do not pass newborn hearing screening or are identified in the nursery as being at high risk for developing hearing loss. Interact and work with related services, such as pediatrics, neonatology, and nursing etc. to ensure continuity of patient care. Report problems to pertinent medical personnel at the time of screening and to newborn hearing screening coordinator. Utilize hospital’s Values as the basis for decision making and to facilitate the division’s hospital mission. Follow established hospital infection control and safety procedures. Performs other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • High school graduate
  • Requires effective interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain harmonious relationships
  • Requires the ability to read, write, and communicate effectively
  • Requires travel for job related purposes
