About The Position

Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) is seeking a Hearing Screener - Newborn / Infant (Per Diem) to join the group at NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi and North Central Bronx. Jacobi Medical Center is a 457-bed, Level I Trauma Center and North Central Bronx Hospital (NCB) has 213 licensed beds. Requirements

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Must be able to work on weekends/holidays.
  • Interest in working with newborns/infants.
  • Ability to handle newborns in nursery.
  • Ability to explain and describe tests to parents.
  • Ability to make decisions with regards to which babies need to be screened, which are able to be screened, how long to spend screening each baby, and when to end a screening when the testing conditions are not adequate.
  • Proper training and certification in emergency procedures and infection control (through hospital mandated in-services).

Nice To Haves

  • During the minimum two-three-month training period, Hearing Screeners are trained in: Overview of the ear and hearing, as well as how screening tests relate to this knowledge.
  • Knowledge of physiology of hearing.
  • Hands on screening with equipment, troubleshooting equipment, surroundings, and babies.
  • Knowledge of work-related software required.
  • Accessing interpreter services when necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Performing newborn hearing screenings in both the Well-Baby and NICU nurseries, as well as in the mother’s hospital room.
  • Documenting results in the electronic medical record.
  • Confirming or rescheduling outpatient appointments.
  • Communicate with Director of Audiology, Audiologists, fellow Hearing Screeners and support staff on a daily basis with any problems, questions, or comments.

Benefits

  • Per Diem Rate = $33.25 per hour
