About The Position

Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) is seeking a Hearing Screener - Newborn / Infant (Per Diem) to join the group at NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi and North Central Bronx. Jacobi Medical Center is a 457-bed, Level I Trauma Center and North Central Bronx Hospital (NCB) has 213 licensed beds. Requirements

High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
Must be able to work on weekends/holidays.
Interest in working with newborns/infants.
Ability to handle newborns in nursery.
Ability to explain and describe tests to parents.
Ability to make decisions with regards to which babies need to be screened, which are able to be screened, how long to spend screening each baby, and when to end a screening when the testing conditions are not adequate.
Proper training and certification in emergency procedures and infection control (through hospital mandated in-services).

Nice To Haves

During the minimum two-three-month training period, Hearing Screeners are trained in: Overview of the ear and hearing, as well as how screening tests relate to this knowledge.
Knowledge of physiology of hearing.
Hands on screening with equipment, troubleshooting equipment, surroundings, and babies.
Knowledge of work-related software required.
Accessing interpreter services when necessary.

Responsibilities

Performing newborn hearing screenings in both the Well-Baby and NICU nurseries, as well as in the mother’s hospital room.
Documenting results in the electronic medical record.
Confirming or rescheduling outpatient appointments.
Communicate with Director of Audiology, Audiologists, fellow Hearing Screeners and support staff on a daily basis with any problems, questions, or comments.
