About The Position

This is an ongoing coverage need for a Neurosurgery Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) at a Level II trauma center. The role involves inpatient, OR, and clinic coverage, with cases including Laminectomy, Fusion, Craniotomy, Thrombectomy, and Burr Holes. The position is full-time, requiring 4 10-hour shifts per week, with rotating weekend coverage. The patient population includes adults and geriatrics, and the facility uses EPIC for EMR. Credentialing is expected to take approximately 90 days.

Requirements

  • Active Pennsylvania licensure
  • Board certification
  • AHA BLS and ACLS certifications
  • Minimum 2-years Neurosurgery experience or equivalent
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree focused on an NP specialty (e.g., family practice, adult-gerontology, pediatrics) OR Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) degree from an accredited program
  • Active and unencumbered advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) license in Pennsylvania OR Active and unencumbered physician assistant (PA) license in Pennsylvania
  • National certification as an NP in a relevant specialty area by a recognized certifying body (e.g., American Academy of Nurse Practitioners [AANP]) OR National certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates with at least one year of experience in a clinical setting relevant to their specialty are preferred for most locum APP positions.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to diagnose and treat a variety of medical conditions
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests
  • Prescribe medications and manage chronic conditions
  • Provide patient education and counseling on healthy lifestyle choices
  • Perform procedures as permitted by state regulations and APP specialty
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care
  • Document patient care accurately and thoroughly
