Requirements

  • Graduate of an Accredited Nurse Practitioners Program with a preference in clinical focus on Surgery and/or Critical Care required.
  • Current A.N.P. Licensure in New York State required.
  • Successful completion and maintenance of Board Certification in Adult Nursing as a practitioner (general or specialized) from the ANCC or the AANP within one year of hire.
  • Collaborative Practice Agreement with the Medical Director of the Trauma Program required.
  • BLS or ACLS required.
  • ATLS required.
  • Unrestricted DEA required.
  • Current Opioid Prescriber Training Certificate
  • NYS Infection Control Certificate
  • Graduate of an Accredited Physician’s Assistant Program.
  • Supervising Practice Agreement with the Medical Director of the Trauma Program or their designee within the scope of practice of such supervising physician
  • Current Physician’s Assistant Licensure in New York State.
  • Successful completion and maintenance of National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • Current ACLS and ATLS Certifications required.
  • Current, unrestricted and valid D.E.A. Registration required.
  • Current Opioid Prescriber Training Certificate required.
  • Current Infectious Certificate required.

  • PALS Certifications Preferred.

Responsibilities

  • The Nurse Practitioners position in Trauma is primarily focused on clinical management, favorable impact on quality of care and is responsible to oversee the total care of the Trauma and Surgery patient including physical exams and treatment of illness.
  • Nurse Practitioners in Trauma will function in all areas of the peri-operative environment including pre-admission, test review, PACU care, step-down unit, outpatient clinic, office practice and other areas designated.
  • Nurse Practitioners in the Trauma Department will use a variety of skills to educate, consult and manage the Trauma or Surgery patient population and assist the patient/family, the patient care team and physicians.
  • They will work collaboratively with the health care team including Trauma and Surgery physicians, anesthesiologists, other physicians involved in the trauma or surgery patient care, nurses, case management, physical and occupational therapy and with departments affecting the care of the Trauma or Surgery patient.
  • Nurse Practitioners in Trauma will act as a clinical educator working with staff on Trauma or Surgery competencies, new procedures and advanced practice skills.
  • They will work with the Trauma Surgeons to implement necessary medical aspects of care including discharges and pain management.
  • Nurse Practitioners in Trauma will use these skills to affect a quality patient experience.
  • The Surgical Physician's Assistant’s position is primarily focused on clinical management, favorable impact on quality of care and is responsible to oversee the total care of the Trauma and Surgery patient including physical exams and treatment of illness.
  • Surgical Physician Assistants will function in all areas of the pre/ peri and post-operative environment including pre-admission, test review, intra-operative first assisting, PACU care, SICU care, step-down unit, outpatient clinic, office practice and other areas designated.
  • Surgical Physician Assistants will use a variety of skills to educate, consult and manage the Trauma or Surgery patient population and assist the patient/family, the patient care team and physicians.
  • They will work collaboratively with the health care team including Trauma and Surgery physicians, anesthesiologists, other physicians involved in the trauma or surgery patient care, nurses, case management, physical and occupational therapy and with departments affecting the care of the Trauma or Surgery patient.
