About The Position

Atrium Health Levine Children's Hospital is looking for an experienced Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join their growing Pediatric Trauma Surgery team. Levine Children's Hospital is the only designated level 1 pediatric trauma center in the Charlotte region and the largest children's hospital between Atlanta and Washington, DC. This is a shift-based position, including rotating weekends and holidays. The successful candidate should be able to perform a thorough history and physical assessment, evaluate, assess, implement plans, and monitor other co-morbid medical conditions secondary to critical illness and injury. Candidates should be able to work closely with trauma surgeons and critical care teams to solve complex clinical cases. The APP will manage already admitted pediatric trauma patients, attend pediatric trauma codes in the Peds ED with trauma attendings, admit to the floor or ICU as clinically indicated, perform procedures, and assist in the OR. This position involves a shift-based model with 50/50 days and nights for pediatric trauma coverage, operating 24/7/365. It includes every third weekend and rotating holidays. There are also teaching opportunities with residents and/or APP Fellows.

Requirements

  • Must have or be eligible for a DEA license.
  • Approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state one works.
  • Eligible for prescriptive authority application through the Board of Nursing or Medical Board in NC required.
  • BLS for Healthcare Provider from AHA required with expiration date greater than 90 days from date of beginning practice.
  • Demonstrates appropriate critical thinking, interpersonal skills, and the ability to prioritize and make proactive decisions.
  • 1 Year experience as a PNP-AC required (for Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner).
  • 1 Year experience required (for Physician Assistant).
  • Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program required (for Physician Assistant).
  • Master's Degree or Doctorate of Nursing Practice required (for Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner).
  • License to practice as a Registered Nurse required (for Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner).
  • Certification in the area of practice from a nationally recognized certifying body required (for Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner).
  • Pediatric Acute Care board certification required based upon population and acuity served (for Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner).

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred (for Physician Assistant).
  • Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants preferred.
  • Current PALS and ATLS preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a thorough history and physical assessment.
  • Evaluate, assess, implement plans, and monitor other co-morbid medical conditions secondary to critical illness and injury.
  • Work closely with trauma surgeons and critical care teams to solve complex clinical cases.
  • Perform a variety of surgical procedures after privileging by Medical Staff to include: chest tube placement, placement of central and arterial lines, laceration repairs and I&D etc.
  • Manage already admitted pediatric trauma patients.
  • Attend pediatric trauma codes in the Peds ED with trauma attendings.
  • Admit patients to the floor or ICU as clinically indicated.
  • Perform procedures and assist in the OR.
  • Provide pediatric trauma coverage 24/7/365.
  • Participate in teaching opportunities with residents and/or APP Fellows.
