About The Position

Atrium Health Levine Children's Hospital is seeking an experienced Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join their growing Pediatric Trauma Surgery team. Levine Children's Hospital is the only designated level 1 pediatric trauma center in the Charlotte region and the largest children's hospital between Atlanta and Washington, DC. This is a shift-based position, including rotating weekends and holidays. The successful candidate will perform thorough history and physical assessments, evaluate and manage co-morbid medical conditions secondary to critical illness and injury, and collaborate with trauma surgeons and critical care teams on complex clinical cases. Responsibilities include performing surgical procedures such as chest tube placement, central and arterial line insertion, laceration repairs, and incision and drainage. The APP will manage admitted pediatric trauma patients, attend trauma codes in the Pediatric ED, admit patients to the floor or ICU, perform procedures, and assist in the OR. Teaching opportunities with residents and/or APP Fellows are also available.

Requirements

Must have or be eligible for a DEA license.
Approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state one works.
Eligible for prescriptive authority application through the Board of Nursing or Medical Board in NC required.
BLS for Healthcare Provider from AHA required with expiration date greater than 90 days from date of beginning practice.
Demonstrates appropriate critical thinking, interpersonal skills, and the ability to prioritize and make proactive decisions.
1 Year experience as a PNP-AC required (for Nurse Practitioner).
1 Year experience required (for Physician Assistant).
Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner: Master's Degree or Doctorate of Nursing Practice required.
Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner: License to practice as a Registered Nurse required.
Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner: Certification in the area of practice from a nationally recognized certifying body required.
Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner: Pediatric Acute Care board certification required based upon population and acuity served.
Physician Assistant: Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program required.

Nice To Haves

Current PALS and ATLS preferred.
Physician Assistant: master's degree preferred.
Physician Assistant: Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants preferred.

Responsibilities

Perform a thorough history and physical assessment.
Evaluate, assess, implement plans, and monitor co-morbid medical conditions secondary to critical illness and injury.
Work closely with trauma surgeons and critical care teams to solve complex clinical cases.
Perform a variety of surgical procedures after privileging by Medical Staff to include: chest tube placement, placement of central and arterial lines, laceration repairs and I&D etc.
Manage already admitted pediatric trauma patients.
Attend pediatric trauma codes in the Peds ED with trauma attendings.
Admit to the floor or ICU as clinically indicated.
Perform procedures and assist in the OR.
Teaching opportunities with residents and/or APP Fellows.
