Our Values Respect | Belonging | Accountability | Transparency Department Neurosurgeons Job Summary The Neurosurgery APP, under supervision of neurosurgery and neuro-critical care faculty, provides care to neurosurgery patients. Functions as an advanced practice provider to support the neurosurgery service. Performs and assists with procedures as needed. Teaches medical, physician assistant and nursing students.

Requirements

Master's Degree for physician assistant/nurse practitioner and successful completion of certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
1-3 years related clinical experience preferred.
PA-Physician Assistant or Physician Assistnat - State Medical Board Required
PAC-Certified Physician Assistant - NCCPA - National Commission for Certifying Agencies Required
BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required
Knowledge of medical principles and procedures.
Skill in performing physical exams, formulation assessments of and treatment plans for patients.
Ordering appropriate diagnostic studies to aid in diagnosis.
Knowledge of appropriate administration and prescription of medications.
Ability to exercise initiative and judgment in selecting proper treatment.
Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations.
Ability to competently perform Neurology specific procedures.
Ability to enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs and continuing education.
Accountability for role in department's productivity, efficiency and financial viability.
Computer skills required.

Responsibilities

Conduct patient evaluations, obtain medical histories and perform physical exams. Complete required chart documentation.
Perform procedures including but not limited EVDs and bolt removal. Assist the neurosurgeon during surgical procedures. Monitor patients in the post-op period.
Teaches medical students, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and nursing students who are in a neurosurgery rotation.
