About The Position

The Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Colorado is seeking a Neurosurgeon for the Denver Veterans Administration Medical Center (DVAMC). This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) faculty position on the Clinical Practice Track, with responsibilities including teaching, clinical duties, potential research, and service. The role involves working closely with other neurosurgeons to cover the DVAMC, located on the Anschutz Campus in Aurora, Colorado.

Requirements

MD or DO
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Neurosurgery
Graduate of an American Board of Neurological Surgery residency program
Maintains or is eligible for Colorado State Medical License
Experience in general neurosurgery practice with at least 7 years of experience (for Associate Professor rank)
Experience in general neurosurgery practice with at least 14 years of experience (for Professor rank)
Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other physicians and staff at all levels throughout the institution.
Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability, with capacity for program building.
Comfort with general cranial procedures and cranial surgical decision making, including but not limited to trauma, some tumors, VP shunts, Chiari malformations, etc.

Responsibilities

Provide timely assessments and documentation in outpatient and inpatient settings.
Review neurosurgery consults to determine the most appropriate initial provider or management plan and confirm that the existing work-up is adequate.
Provide therapeutic interventions appropriate to the physician’s expertise and the facility’s capabilities.
Maintain clinical privileges, including diagnostic assessment, medication evaluation, and management.
Collaborate with providers in other medical and surgical services, including making appropriate referrals.
Participate in facility programs that improve patient care, including patient safety and quality improvement initiatives.
Adjust work schedules and assignments on short notice to meet changing workloads and deadlines.
Perform administrative and academic duties related to the specialty.
Provide supervision, teaching, and technical training to residents based on their training level and experience.
Report administratively and clinically to the Chief of Surgery.
Ensure practice is consistent with Joint Commission, CARF, and VA policies and procedures.
Follow Neurosurgery guidelines, VISN standards, national statutes and regulations, medical record documentation requirements, mandatory continuing education, and HIPAA policies.
