About The Position

The University of Southern Mississippi's Division of Coastal Sciences (COA) in the School of Ocean Science and Engineering (SOSE) is seeking a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track faculty member in Aquatic Ecotoxicology. This position is open to Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor levels and is expected to begin in Fall 2026. The ideal candidate will be a scientist focused on aquatic ecotoxicology, investigating organismal responses to current and future anthropogenic stressors and contaminants. Research areas may include molecular, biochemical, and organismal responses to various contaminants (metals, pesticides, petroleum, pharmaceuticals, emerging contaminants), mechanisms of toxicity, and multi-stressor experimental research. The successful candidate will utilize a state-of-the-art 11,000 sq ft biosafety level 2 toxicology facility, equipped with aquatic exposure chambers, an aquaculture lab, a molecular biology lab, and an instrumentation lab, capable of precise environmental variable and toxin control. The School of Ocean Science and Engineering offers graduate (M.S. and Ph.D.) and undergraduate degree programs and leverages its Gulf Coast location and research infrastructure across multiple sites. This position is located at the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, which offers comprehensive research programs, advanced laboratory facilities, research vessels, and specialized centers.

Requirements

• A Ph.D. and postdoctoral experience in a relevant discipline
• Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without the need for visa sponsorship

• Develop a strong, nationally recognized and externally funded research program
• Publish in peer-reviewed literature
• Mentor graduate students and undergraduate students
• Deliver engaging instruction, contributing to the educational mission of COA and SOSE by developing and teaching graduate and undergraduate courses related to aquatic ecotoxicology and broader coastal/marine sciences
• Engage in service activities to COA, SOSE, and USM
• Foster collaborations across USM's diverse academic units
• Perform other duties as assigned
