About The Position

The Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Colorado Anschutz is seeking a Neurosurgeon for the Denver Veterans Administration Medical Center (DVAMC). This is a full-time faculty position (1.0 FTE) on the Clinical Practice Track, with responsibilities including teaching, clinical duties, potential research, and service. The role involves collaborating with other neurosurgeons to provide care at the DVAMC, located on the Anschutz Campus in Aurora, Colorado.

Requirements

MD or DO
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Neurosurgery
Graduate of an American Board of Neurological Surgery residency program
Maintains or is eligible for Colorado State Medical License
Assistant Professor: Minimum qualifications as listed above.
Associate Professor: Minimum qualifications as listed above, plus at least 7 years of experience in general neurosurgery practice.
Professor: Minimum qualifications as listed above, plus at least 14 years of experience in general neurosurgery practice.
Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other physicians and staff at all levels throughout the institution.
Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability, with capacity for program building.
Comfort with general cranial procedures and cranial surgical decision making, including but not limited to trauma, some tumors, VP shunts, Chiari malformations, etc.

Nice To Haves

Clinical experience and/or fellowship training in spine.

Responsibilities

Provide clinical care and manage consults, including timely assessments and documentation in outpatient and inpatient settings.
Review neurosurgery consults to determine appropriate initial provider or management plan and ensure adequate work-up.
Perform therapeutic interventions within the physician's expertise and facility capabilities.
Maintain clinical privileges, including diagnostic assessment, medication evaluation, and management.
Collaborate with providers in other medical and surgical services, making appropriate referrals.
Participate in facility programs aimed at improving patient care, including patient safety and quality improvement initiatives.
Adjust work schedules and assignments on short notice to meet changing workloads and deadlines.
Perform administrative and academic duties related to the specialty.
Provide supervision, teaching, and technical training to residents.
Ensure practice is consistent with Joint Commission, CARF, and VA policies and procedures.
Follow Neurosurgery guidelines, VISN standards, national statutes and regulations, medical record documentation requirements, mandatory continuing education, and HIPAA policies.
