About The Position

Join the Neurology Team at Jacksonville’s Newest 24/7 Emergency & Specialty Veterinary Hospital! Allied Veterinary Specialists (AVS) is opening a brand-new, state-of-the-art Emergency & Specialty Hospital in Jacksonville and is looking for a skilled, compassionate Neurology Veterinary Technician to join their expanding specialty team. As a Neurology Technician, you will work directly alongside a board-certified veterinary neurologist to care for patients with complex neurologic conditions—from initial evaluation and advanced diagnostics through treatment, surgery, hospitalization, rehabilitation, and recovery. This is an opportunity to help establish the Neurology Service from the very beginning, coordinating patient care, diagnostics, procedures, hospitalization, and communication while contributing to the development of workflows and standards for this new specialty service. The ideal candidate will be experienced in veterinary patient care and excited about the opportunity to develop advanced skills within Neurology and Neurosurgery. Previous experience in neurology is valuable, but experienced technicians from Emergency & Critical Care, Surgery, Anesthesia, Internal Medicine, or another specialty environment with a strong interest in learning Neurology are also encouraged to apply. The role requires someone who is compassionate, dependable, detail-oriented, clinically curious, eager to learn, and passionate about providing exceptional patient care.

Nice To Haves

  • Experienced technicians coming from Emergency & Critical Care, Surgery, Anesthesia, Internal Medicine, or another specialty environment who have a strong interest in learning Neurology.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly alongside a board-certified veterinary neurologist.
  • Coordinate patient care, diagnostics, procedures, hospitalization, and communication.
  • Contribute to the development of workflows and standards for the new Neurology service.
  • Perform neurologic patient assessments and examinations.
  • Provide advanced neurologic patient nursing.
  • Manage and monitor seizure patients.
  • Manage spinal cord and brain diseases.
  • Assist with advanced diagnostic imaging, including CT and MRI.
  • Provide anesthesia and monitoring for advanced imaging.
  • Perform cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) collection and processing.
  • Prepare patients for neurologic and neurosurgical procedures.
  • Assist with advanced neurologic and neurosurgical procedures.
  • Monitor post-operative neurosurgical recovery.
  • Administer pain management and ensure patient comfort.
  • Provide mobility assistance and specialized nursing care.
  • Perform IV catheter placement and medication administration.
  • Manage hospitalized neurologic patients.
  • Educate clients and provide discharge instructions.
  • Collaborate with Emergency, Critical Care, Surgery, Internal Medicine, and other specialty services.
